Jishuitan means water collecting pool in English. Since Yuan dynasty or the 1200s, the lake had sometimes been used by imperial staff to bath elephants imported from Thailand or Myanmar. Nowadays, the lake sees more ducks than elephants. Jishuitan Hospital is in the background.
